First Female Astraunaut

Colonel-Engineer Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was the first woman in outer space and I’m sorry to learn she was a Russian Cosmanot.

But since she was the 1st woman to travel into space, she deserves a shout-out!

Born March 6, 1937 in Maslennikova, Russia. She went up on June 16, 1963 in the Vostok 6. Valery F. Bykovsky was orbiting at the same time in Vostok 5, which had been launched 2 days before. They both landed on June 19. Sounds like they were solo missions. She orbited the Earth 48 times in 71 hours.

I think the most interesting thing I’ve seen is that she wasn’t even a trained pilot, just an amateur parachutist and a textile worker. But she volunteered and apparently they thought her good enough, even if she was a woman. Ok, shout out for the USSR, too! (And please don’t get nasty, I know that they did many horrible things, just pointing out that this was a good one and they beat us to it.)

It looks like she is an active politician, having served the Soviet Party until it’s fall and then again in 2008 serving as a deputy chair of the parliament.

As far as I can find online, she’s still living in Moscow and living quietly in seclusion.

I love Yard Sales

Today I went yard saling in Midland.  I was looking for a little tykes kitchen and not only was it still there, I talked the guy into taking $5 off.  He said he wife didn't want him to...but he'd do it anyway.  And then he even helped me get it in my van.  I also got a Schwinn scooter, My 1st Roller Skates, roller blades, walkie-talkies, legos, duplos, and a ton of books.

Now today is another day in Mrs. B's 31 days of Halloween.  I'm pretty bummed about missing out on those earbobs...but I will try again today.  With this new blog, I hope I win the blog makeover button!  But if not, I may have to buy one.

First up today is this cute mini-hat with the skull hand and black ribbon created by Brat Botique.  It attaches with a comb to your hair.  I think it would be great on Halloween night when I take my boys trick-or-treating.

Next are these 4 skeleton post-cards by Natasha Blue.  I really like her work.  Kind of dark, but not scary.  The prints are called "Frida, Flower in Red, Skeletons in Love, and Mary."
