Sunday Stealing: The Seriously Random Questions Meme, Pt. 3

Cheers to all of us thieves!

41. Who was the last person you went shopping with? My children...I always go shopping with my children. It can be a pain in the butt, but today Chris took them and it was sweet to kick back.

42. What is something you need to go shopping for? We always need food. Although right now we are pretty good, probably going to need milk soon.

43. Do you have the same first name as one of your relatives? Nope, as far as I know I'm the only Angela...which is weird considering how large my dad's family is.

44. What kind of car do (did) your parents drive? My mom was all Ford but she just bought a Chrysler mini-van. It's pretty, I love my Chrysler Concord.

45. Are you rich? Oh hell no, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum from rich. lmao

46. If you could spend one intimate night with a celebrity, no questions asked, never to see them again, who would it be? It'd have to be the guy who played Nathan Stark on Eureka...oh wait I'm supposed to say I would never ever be with anyone else, right? lol - well come on not like it'll ever happen!

48. What famous person do you look like? Feel free to use this facial match program by clicking here. Show us at least the celeb photo. God the only one I recognize is Terry Hatcher...EWWWWW!

49. What is the most daring thing you've done recently? I let myself run out of fabric softner. No really, do you have any idea how not-soft my towels and sheets are???

50. Say you were given a pregnancy test right now. Would you pass or fail? pass, no question at all in my mind. I've been spayed. lol - I just realized I probably answered this wrong. I think it would be failing if I WERE pregnant...probably not what they meant.

51. Which sex scandal of the last decade bothers you the most? None of them bother me, I mean when it's a politician or a celebrity they don't get any privacy and all I can think is it isn't any of my business. It's between the guy and his wife.

52. Do you know anyone in jail/prison? My dad was in jail when I was 9...for drunk driving and that's it.

53. What are your plans (or what have you done) for this weekend? Nothing at all...well I did read Smokin' Seventeen and I took a 3 hour bubble bath and I moved the recliner onto the porch so I could spend the rest of the afternoon in trailer-park style.

54. Have you ever woken up and not known where you were? No, I'm not that heavy of a sleeper.

55. What were you doing at midnight last night?? Either I was trying to sleep or I was watching Birdman.

56. Last restaurant you went to? Ummm...Biggby!

57. How many hours did you sleep for last night? Not many, too much caffeine and a headache and then the boys jumped into bed with us and Ivan was all over the place, he kept hitting me.

58. Which is more distracting: Sexting while driving or sex while driving? I've never done either but I would go with sexting because you have to look at the keyboard. Having someone play with your wangdoodle doesn't require any eye contact.

59. Do you think someone is thinking about you right now? Yes, Ivan is hoping I don't bust him for being in the fridge.

60. Have you ever changed your clothes while in a vehicle? Yeah, but more like a van when camping. And I was super fast about it.

60 1/2. If you haven't "liked" us (WTIT) on facebook and would like to, click here. Thanks, friends! It's on my to-do list.

Review - Take the Monkeys and Run

By: Karen Cantwell

Amazon.com - $12.93
Amazon Kindle - $0.99
Barnes & Noble - $12.93
B&N Nook - $0.99

Synopsis:
Soccer mom, Barbara Marr, just found monkeys in her trees and a severed human head in her neighbor’s basement. Could her day get any worse? When she gets a little too snoopy for her own good . . . you betcha it does!

237 pages of laugh-out-loud fun.

I loved this book...the cover is colorful and quirky, the title definitely catches your attention. It really sets you up for a silly mystery.

It starts out with Barb, the main character bemoaning her lack of talents. She thinks she's a good mom and thought she was a good wife, but her husband just left. She is miserable, she really thought her marriage was fine and then he up and walked out on her and the girls. She also loves watching movies and does comparisons throughout the story. The first one is that she is determined to be more like Sigourney Weaver in Aliens. She wants to be tough and not weepy.

Late one night she hears a truck pull up to the House of Bones, the house next door that has been abandoned for nearly 30 years. She is curious...the next morning her yard is overrun with monkeys...yes monkeys...she is beyond curious. She pulls her friends in and finds a head in the house next door. It's officially a murder mystery.

To top it off her husband keeps showing up. This is frustrating to say the least and I think in part is drives her detective work because it is the only thing she can control.

That is all I can say now. There are LOTS of surprises and the characters are all colorful and enjoyable. I especially love Barbs mother, a bigger than life woman who owns every room she is in. There are also a few guys vying for Barb's attention, but is her marriage really over? Pick up a copy and read for yourself! Barb Marr is my new favorite heroine.

Review - To Kill A Warlock

An Urban Fantasy Novel
By H.P. Mallory

Amazon.com - $8.99
Amazon.com Kindle - $0.99
Barnes & Noble - $8.90
Barnes & Noble Nook - $0.99

The murder of a dark arts warlock.
A shape-shifting, ravenous creature on the loose.
A devilishly handsome stranger sent to investigate.
Sometimes working law enforcement for the Netherworld is a real bitch.

Dulcie O’Neil is a fairy. And not the type to frolic in gardens. She’s a Regulator—a law-enforcement agent who monitors the creatures of the Netherworld to keep them from wreaking havoc in the mortal world.

When a warlock is murdered and Dulcie was the last person to see him alive, she must uncover the truth before she’s either deported back to the Netherworld, or she becomes the next victim.

Enter Knight Vander, a sinfully attractive investigator sent from the Netherworld to work the case with Dulcie.

Between battling her attraction to her self-appointed partner, keeping a sadomasochistic demon in check, and fending off the advances of a sexy and powerful vampire, Dulcie’s got her hands full.

As the body count increases, Dulcie finds herself battling dark magic, reconnoitering in S&M clubs and suffering the greatest of all betrayals.

I had more fun with this book than I ever imagined. It was written with the popularity of Vampire Diaries and other such paranormals but this one is for grown ups!

Dulcie is a fairy that dreams of being a writer. She does write a historical romance, and is then told by the publishing community that they want paranormal romances. As if she doesn't deal with the paranormal enough in her career as a regulator (law enforcement).

She has lovable friends, especially Sam the witch...a very talented witch. The characters throughout the novel are quirky and sometimes lovable. Bram the vampire bar owner grates on Dulcie's nerves, but I found it amusing as hell.

Then Knight comes into the picture, crazy sexy and his presence is top secret. Dulcie is drafted to help him...also secretly...solve a crime and find out who sent for a deadly creature from the Netherworld.

The chemistry between them is HOT, I can't wait to read more in this series.

Review - Releasing Gillian's Wolves

Releasing Gillian's Wolves
By: Tara Woolpy
Available August 01, 2011
ISBN: 098320330X

Synopsis:
Thirty years ago Gillian married Jack Sach, now a United States Congressman. Through the years she’s remained faithful. He hasn’t. Ever. She cooks to soothe herself and others, cares for her mother-in-law and her gardens, sneaks off to the studio to explode with angry paintings and tries to keep Jack’s dalliances secret. As she nears fifty, her friends think she should leave but she lingers, bound by inertia and fear of the effect media coverage of a divorce would have on her family.

Gillian shares a trust fund with Edward, her gay neighbor and best friend. Over the years, in support of Gillian’s marriage, the trust bankrolled Jack’s many successful campaigns. Not particularly interested in politics, Gillian survives by ignoring everything outside her kitchen, garden and studio. Edward has his own ragged past filled with bad relationships, drugs and alcohol. Through the course of a summer, Gillian’s marriage continues to deteriorate while Edward’s life finally starts to improve. He’s sober, stable and has found life-changing love with Sam, a Biology professor at the local university. Their happiness shines a stark light on Gillian’s loveless marriage. Finally, when Gillian meets Jack’s latest conquest, twenty-year-old Ashley, she’s forced to confront the rot at the core of her relationship. She travels to Amsterdam where she meets the intriguing sculptor Luke. Perhaps it is not too late for happiness.

First reviewed at A Cozy Reader's Corner
The title is interesting, I do love Wolves. You don't find out the meaning until the very end, which is actually very interesting. It was always in my mind, what on earth is it about releasing her wolves??? And when you figure it out, it's all ok.

The cover-art is very pretty and serene, a boathouse on a lake in the fall. So colorful, and with the leaves being in high color it signifies the heavy change that is coming.

The story is written from Gillian's perspective, but in the 3rd person. This is an easy writing style to read, you don't get to follow the other characters as much but it keeps the story on track, as it really is Gillian's story.

That being said, it doesn't lack for characters - and interesting ones as well. Gillian is a very loving person. She has her neighbor Edward, who is like a brother to her. They have been in each other's lives nearly forever. Their grandfathers built their houses and they both live off a combined trust fund from those grandfathers. Her husband, Jack, also the sleaze of the story is a US Senator and plays his part well. They have 2 children, John and Aurora. Then add Sam, Edwards newest lover and obvious soul-mate and Maggie, Gillian's BFF. They all have their own problems and history but she loves them unconditionally and loves to take care of them...mostly with food.

There is a lot of cooking in this book, no matter where it is taking place. The first part of the book is at the Lake house next door to Edward. When she finally gets fed up with her lying and cheating husband, she moves to the cabin by the lake. I was distracted that she let Jack keep the house, but it wasn't permanent. After the election she goes to Amsterdam to visit Edward and Sam. Edward and Gillian feel they have found home. Still unsure about divorce, Jack forces her hand by getting caught in a bribery scandal. Her friend Maggie offers tenants to rend out the house - obviously Jack isn't keeping it and Gillian wants to go to her new home.

I was disappointed that after all the discussion about how she had never been alone in her entire life, she still didn't find anything more than a few days alone. I would be happy to see her get her own place, but that doesn't seem likely. I guess at least it is on her own terms.

That being said this novel was captivating. I was so tired last night and I still couldn't put it down until I finished it. With 2 young boys, reading a book in a couple of days is a very, very good story. I've read the same from other people. Fast pace, I didn't think it slowed down at all. I really loved it.

So - 4 stars and a big Thank You to Tara Woolpy for signing my advanced copy.
